Buckeye Western Horse Association History
BWHA was established as a C105 non-profit organization on July 20, 1942, in Hancock County. It was established to conduct activities designed to promote, stimulate and further interest in Western-bred horses; to conduct group riding and horse shows, to buy, sell and hold property both real and personal; and in general, to do all things incident, necessary or proper thereto.
The address on the tax-exempt form in 1942 was 911 East Sandusky Street, home of Dr. C. C. Pearson. It’s not an ordinary home in Findlay, Ohio but a historical home of Tell Taylor writer of the song “Down By the Old Mill Stream”. You can see the home as you enter the Hancock County Fairgrounds main entrance.
BWHA has put on numerus types of horse show on the grounds of the Hancock Fairgrounds. The Extravaganza Quarter Horse Show was first put on the fairgrounds in the 1990s, which accommodated over 500 horses. In 2013 BWHA joined forces with the Ohio Amateur Association to create two weekend shows called ‘The Little Buckeye’ and ‘The Buckeye’. In 2019 BWHA separated with the armatures and created the current BWHA Classic Show.
